Lansdown 'A'   3     Cleevillains  2

Hereford & Gloucester League 1 leaders lost top position to Newent following a defeat at Lansdown.

Despite Cleevillians fielding a line-up which boasted all ten outfield players having scored this season, they were limited to just 2 goals by a very organised and competitive Lansdown team.  This game also featured an excellent standard of umpiring.

Lansdown took an early lead when Cleevillians gave the ball away cheaply just outside the circle, allowing the oposition to run in and score after just 2 minutes.

Thereafter, the game turned out to be a closely contested affair and with both midfields working extremely hard, the number of chances created by either team was limited.  With ten minutes of the first half remaining, Scott Mcilquham broke into the Lansdown penalty area before laying the ball off to Toby Flanagan.  Toby composed himself before lashing the ball into the roof off the net giving the Lansdown keeper no chance.

Just before half time, Lansdown scored after a move down their right hand side, led to a pass that found an unmarked player who duly despatched his shot into the bottom corner of the goal.

Cleevillians equalised 15 minutes into the second half with a well worked goal.  Ben Link's free hit was collected by Martin Halls, whose pin-point pass was converted by Tom North.   Following the goal, with both sets of half backs cancelling each other out, there were very few chances created. However, with 12 minutes remaining, Lansdown converted from a short corner and despite frantic pressure in the last 2 minutes, including a dramatic short corner played out after the final whistle was blown, Cleevillians were unable to secure a draw, which would have been a fair result.
