In a well contested
match Cleevillians maintained their top
table position with a 6-2 over Wootten under Edge. Immediately it was
aware to
Villians and especially the defence that Wootten had become prepared
for this game
– and was very much “up for it”. Despite their positive attitude
however,
Wootten were subdued to the consistent good hockey Cleevillians have
shown in
the first have of the season and opened the scoring to make it one nil. Wootten
were quick to reply
making it 1-1, troubling the home side constantly.
Although,
Cleevillians began to up the tempo, and it wasn’t long before they
retrained
their lead to 2-1; Toby Flannagan who has been an inspiration to many
youths
this season (Ben Link) made the score 3-1 with a well struck hit that
had been
worked from a short corner from the top of the “D”, the lead was
further
increased by Tom North and Vince Clark who also put in great
performances but
the assists from Scott McQuilham will not undoubtedly go amiss, as the
youngster made key passes throughout . Towards the final minutes
Wootten gave
themselves a glimmer of hope when the young side struck the ball low
into the
corner to make it 5-2, and a chance to see if they could salvage
anything from
what looked to be an inevitable victory.
