Newent 1 Cleevillians
4
Cleevillians
beat 3rd place Newent in a
high tempo game to go top of the Hereford & Gloucester League 1. Having created the clearer cut chances,
Cleevillians found themselves a goal down after 25 minutes following a
well
worked passing move by Newent. The
response by Cleevillians was immediate with first Tom North scoring
from a
short corner and then Vince Clark scoring at the second attempt
following a good
save by the Newent goal keeper.
In form
Clark who has scored in all 7 appearances
this season notched up his 18th goal of the season 5 minutes
into
the second half. Thereafter Newent put
on the pressure but rarely broke through a solid Cleevillians’ defence,
led by
Stuart Skinner and joint man of the match Sean Flanagan and Niall
Pawsey.
On the
one occasion that Newent did get through,
Chris Smallwood made a good save, deflecting the ball wide of the post. Cleevillians played well on the break with
most of the good work coming from Tom North and from one such break,
Vince
Clark cut in from wide on the left, taking the ball across the “D” and
when his
shot was blocked, Niall Pawsey followed up to drive the ball into the
net.
